AVM Rajeswari (Chennai) v Sri Jayendra Saraswathi (Coimbatore)
Put in, AVM Rajeswari were lifted to 159/3 by skipper Arvindh, who scored the first century of the final phase and added 87 for the opening wicket with southpaw R Yeshwant (40) and 68 for the next with left-hander Adithya Venkatesh.
AVM Rajeswari, runners-up in the Chennai leg, could manage only 29 runs during Powerplay but recovered to 60 by the 10th over before stepping it up in the second half of the innings.
Arvindh, Player of the Tournament in the Chennai leg, lashed seven fours and eight sixes in his 57-ball knock, including two sixes each in one over off off-spinners P Jobin Jerald and B Sachin. The Coimbatore side used eight bowlers and introduced medium-pace only in the 16th over.
Opener D Aswath scored an unbeaten 94 to keep Sri Jayendra Saraswathi in the hunt but the side was undone by the quick exit of the top order, especially key player ND Harishankar, who was sent back by pacer Anthzack Romero.
“We didn’t get enough in Powerplay and although we had seven wickets in hand, our batting didn’t really get going,” said Aswath.
It was Sri Jayendra Saraswathi’s first defeat in three games.
“We slowed down towards the end of our innings. We should have got 180,” said Man of the match Arvindh.
